FAQ's
Who does it? Professional microneedling procedures are carried out our trained estheticia n practitioner with a medical background. Professional skin microneedling can take anywhere from 1.5-2 hrs., depending on skin type, area(s) requiring treatment. Note: This can include the skin preparation time for proper skin anesthetizing. NOTE: Home use kits available online, do not offer the same results as a professionally performed treatment.
What is the process? Prior to starting the skin needling procedure the skin is anesthetized with an effective and comforting topical anesthetic. Once applied, an appropriate needle type and depth is chosen for client's skin. This process causes tiny puncture injuries in the outer layer of the skin which makes the skin produce new collagen. This process usually will not leave bruising, but peeling will occur.
What shall I expect after the treatment? Upon completion there will be a slight redness and raised areas. The skin will also feel tight and slightly sensitive to the touch. Most irritation dissipates within 24 hours and the area should be completely healed within days. Three to five days later, no one will be able to tell that you just had a procedure.
After doing the treatments: Clients typically begin to see results quickly however long term result are shown within 6-8 weeks. Results can last about 6 months, depending on how many treatments have been administered. Significant improvement to the skin can be achieved through a course of 4-8 sessions. Cycles at intervals of 14 to 28 days to achieve the very best results. Finally, it is strongly recommended that patients use recommended as well as provided/ home skin care regime during and between visits to maximize the results.
What body parts can be treated with CIT? The scalp, face, neck, decollete, hands, abdomen, and most parts of the body.
Am I a candidate for CIT? CIT is suitable for most clients since natural collagen production stops between the ages 30-40. It is not recommended for individual with active skin or body infections, chronic skin diseases/disorders, chronic infections, blood clotting problems, immune compromised state for any reason, poor healing abiltiy, or a history of hypertrophic scarring or keloids.
What is the recovery time / downtime after a CIT treatment?
Immediately after the procedure, the skin is sensitive, pink and may or may not have pinpoint blood visible on the surface. Mild swelling, raised skin and pinkness (like a sunburn) may occur for 24-72 hrs. Microperferations will close within 24 hrs. It is safe to resume normal activities after the procedure. Heavy perspiration is to be avoided for 48 hrs. Direct sun, salt, chlorine, tanning beds, spray tan products is to be avoided for 7-10 days. We recommend waiting until the next day to wash face, shower, exercise and/or to apply make-up.
When do I expect to see results?
Though immediate results will be evident, the most significant improvement is gradual and improves substantially by completing the 3 CIT treatments approximately 10-28 days apart. (depending on service depth and skin condition). It will take 90 days for the collagen remodeling process to fully begin and this will continue for approximately 3-4 months after the CIT treatment (individual results will vary). A vital part of skin's rejuvenation is our customized skin care regimen, which gives the best results possible. Our personalized skin care should be continued after the procedure to ensure healthy production collagen/elastin for desired skin goals: younger, smoother, overall healthier skin.
What changes can be expected with CIT?
The skin will appear smoother, more plump and youthful with less visible fine lines and softer deeper lines. Stretch marks and acne scars will improve. Pigmentation irregularities can also improve for a more consistent overall tone. On the whole, skin tone/texture will improve while creating a natural, more youthful appearance.
How long do the effects of CIT last?
The effects varying from person to person. Frequency and consistency of the treatments make a marked difference in the longevity of the treatment. As the skin ages, some of the new collagen also ages. Fortunately, maintenance therapy can be effectively used to continue improving skin's appearance. Therefore we recommend maintenance treatments every 3-6 months to optimize youthful skin appearance.
Can I get botox or fillers in conjunction with CIT?
Yes. Based on your desired goals, our esthetician specialist will recommend a treatment plan and referral to our associate professional, Fountain of Youth Skin Care Center in Hartland, MI.
